Malaysia Trip II: Arrival at KLIA

Arrival at KLIA

[... previous]

It's the sun plunging down right at mid day. Our carrier leans down around right to left softly. Malacca strait has just been acrossed through over the sky. Beneath scenery is full of palm plantation. It's about simmering green down seen from bird view. Yet it looks neat. It could be understood since Malaysia is the top producer of palm oil, slightly now below Indonesia marking up world's phytooil trade. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is just around. No more than 15 minutes Lion Air B737-900R touches down apron and approaching the bridge. Compared with our previous leaving airport, it's totally different. KLIA appears with modern look and so are adjacent facilitis inside. But KLIA may leave cultural touch of its design. It's just common like other modern aiport overseas. Though, SOETTA by any mean stands on its well retained cultural construction.

We've just arrived, crossing the pier then heading to KLIA-train. I personally like this system. KLIA has turned into its own Malaysia well integrated system. Passengers are given their way inside mega airport. Train automatically carries any airlines passenger from arrival terminal to immigration (international flight). For specialized MAS (Malaysia Airlines) passenger, they don't need to arrive through satellite terminal but directly to main building. Any destination centralized to main building for immigration process.

It takes quite time though to pass immigration counter. Noon arrival flight is tight. I remember when queuing inside foreign bonded ribbon, most India departure flight passenger arrived just like the same line with me. And so do other foreign citizens. But here Indonesian passenger are dominantly standing prolonging the row. I have no idea what their intention to port in Malaysia through KL. But randomly I guess some like us, temporary visit for tourism or indeed they may go for work like common. Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur sector has significantly bonded tougher. Should I mention some airlines serving this route? It varies from middle size fleet up to jumbo ones. Mentioning GIA with B737-800NG twice a day, Lion Air with B737-900ER twice a day, KLM Royal Dutch daily (From Schippol-Netherland ), Air Asia (significantly most frequent daily flight), Kuwait Airways (From Kuwait city), home base airlines MAS, Yemenia (From San'a), and Mandala Air (soon to operate).

Immigration process is not that complicated, I don't get any question since my passport has been stamped previously with Malaysia immigration. In addition it's supported with stronger proof of my Japan Visa. After all of us passing through the desk, we soon head to baggage claim area. Trolley moves automatically and stuffs turn around till it's taken. But unfortunately one of our member lost his baggage. Till our return to Jakarta, we still don't get further information, no obvious reason why it lost. We contact intensively SOETTA staffs, KLIA staffs, and Lion Air staffs as well. But fortune doesn't belong to our member. It's really inconvenient service. We even don't know where it started to lose. We can not judge one of any of them, but we just do hope we can get information the process of lost at least, but not that so although. We attempt to forget and forgive about it, hope someday it never ever happen again.

For that reason, the committee member have to wait so long time for us till we leave the airport. They've been standing there since some hours ago. We feel sorry about that. Later, we get into the UPM bus then heading to NIOSH hostel where we will stay during the program.

Indonesian Movie: Strikes Back

Indonesian Movie: Strikes Back

Several recent years back, Indonesian movie flourished by some adult-horror genres. Audience seemingly had no choice but kept settling down in theatre to figure them out, the secene were absolutely predicted and prevailing like most others. The actress showed up with very less body cover and camera focued on certain 'seductive part' that of actress. Then geuriilla local ghost appeared, comming with multiple mission and behaving like human 'sexual behavior' indeed of ghost's natural desire - to frighten at least. Though some other motivated and educated movies were also appearing to drink audience's thirst of qualified entertainment through movie, mentioning Laskar Pelangi, Sang Pemimpi, and so fourth.

Now, it has tent to change anyway. Since "The Raid: Redemption" paid by huge attention for its award, the similar genre is growing for demand. Thriller movie becomes playing on attention leaving left sex-horror genre behind. Thought it's a breakthrough at least audience have more choice. The simmering genre even though still limited to adult consumption, by considering the content filled up with dominantly brutal action on scene. Appropriately children are not allowed to watch for psychological excuse.

I've just returned on YouTube to find out another Indonesian movie, "Modus Anomali" coming up with just like horror-adventurous or the other term they claim as psychology thriller. I have no idea whether this film will be allowed for underage audience. The difference presents Modus Anomali with English in whole movie, Bahasa Indonesia just used as subtitle. It's just rare and seemingly to catch the audience more internationally might be the reason Joko Anwar as director to present his current release film differently. We just may remind how Hong Kong movies at the past they used English as main core of conversation in the scenes, then they turned back to use Chinese as getting wealth and attention by foreign audience. But quality of movie itself  might be major reason too they deserved. Not to underestimate, but Modus Anomali could be another story of Indonesian movie.

Here is the official trailer from Youtube:

Modus Anomaly tells the story of a man who, when on holiday in a forest, his family found themselves mysteriously disappeared and were hunted by a sadistic killer. The only clue is the alarm clock which at any time on that either signifies nothing.

Malaysia Trip I: Crowd of SOETTA

Crowd of SOETTA

I've been absence of March posting, well it sounds unfair even against my pledge to post -at least- 2 every month. Now I have to redeem after arrival by late February from neighboring country, Malaysia.

I and fellows from university (IPB) just applied for an agricultural symposium for student organized by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Some 15 Students including me are ready to have this trip for 10-day long. It took about 3 months to prepare our attendance, from paper presentation rehearsal till cultural performance. We used to put some hours of day break for rehearsal, just to perform our best since we burden our university representation. Nothing means to exaggerate, but this kind of our responsibility and definitely we don't expect bad things go around.

In very early morning all of us get ready to reach airport by DAMRI bus sheltering in Baranangsiang station. It's just 4 am we depart passing this such long highway and taking around an hour for reason without distressing traffic. Just makes sense because it's too early for some rumbling activities. But no longer as we arrive in the airport.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (SOETTA) stands misty this morning but not vehicles. Cars are flourishing over parking terrain to make up ground view. Almost extinct to find extensive slot, almost covered by rapid growing automobile. It can be understood since the only two public transportations checking in/out the airport are taxi and bus. Railways planned to connect city and gate of Jakarta still shuffles on progress. In consequence the growth of passenger every single year increases, the most busy and even chaotic system prevails. Though now SOETTA Mega Project echoed to finish by 2014 and 2020 respectively as project fragmented into phases. Today parking area will be replaced with huge building of Terminal Center as well as interconnection with spreading of commercial places such as shop, hotel, restaurant, airport train shuttle, and kids playing arena. I prove this ambitious project displayed on banner over highway and big commercial screen videos inside terminal bulding.

It's just 05.30 am, but Terminal 2 (International terminal) looked so hustle. Since our flight will be departing right 9 am, so we decide to have a look and looking for Lion Air information. Our flight today is JT-282 CGK-KLIA sector. But guess nothing we find on Airport Departure Schedule on a medium TV screen, we become little worried about. Fortunately the officer suggests us soon to pass security gate into check-in room, he reveals that might be inappropriate system for Lion Air has just opened it additional flight to KL few months ago. We wonder could be reasonable, but kinda weird when you have a flight and can't find anything of your departure. Not merely us, but some other passengers exactly written over their face how confusing to recognize incomplete timetable. We just wonder they soon update their system for inconvenient information to passenger.

Well, we make check-in soon then fill immigration form and definitely have to pay as much IDR 150,000 (approx $15) for airport tax/person. Then approaching immigration passage. But this is not sort of ordinary queue, but a random snake. They open merely 3 gates for Indonesian Passport Holder and 2 gates for Foreign Passport Holder. Length of Yellow Line to most-behind wall interprating maximum length of queue is just merely 20-25 meters. But this hour only which we guess not part of rush hour -or probably every hour is rush- people are queueing so so long excessing the line length. Meanwhile the time of flight departure schedule stick by very close minute every single taking-off. SOETTA itself has been put 12th most busy airport in the world heading Dubai Airport (UAE), Changi (Spore), Suvarnabhumi (Thailand), and far leaving KLIA (Malaysia) by number of passenger traffic in 2011 (Source). This very rapid growing unfortunately has not been yet followed by increment of airport service and terminal. I guess we have to learn much more from our neighboring countries (Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand) how they manage their airport as one of most important gateway into their coutry by service and facilities. Nothing against SOETTA airport, but improvement is appropriately not be bergained.

After finishing immigration, we soon reach waiting room and announcement of departure just confirmed so we have no excess time to sit but ready borading to the aircraft. Luckily today flight with Lion Air is on time. As predicted before, the airlines carries passenger with its new B737-900 ER looked fresh and clean. Lion Air has broken histroy of aviation the biggest ordered of Boeing 737 series by number and value transaction. Indeed, aviation in Indonesia is really growing, not slowly but so fast. Just return to few years ago and come back to present, making comparison is such obvious revealing it seriously grows and might be seriously necessary to wake up how this evolving flight really handled.

Inside the aircraft, nothing much to do but talking with my friends. The 2-hour flight is not that bad without any adjacent facility for our group consists of these happy members and easily to laugh. Whole the sky through we just talk and talk as usual teenager behave. And fortunately we sit at almost behind seats so easily going to toilet or just relaxation for awhile :D

PILH-ICSF
Students Called To Seedling

Farming Class

Indonesian Climate Student Forum (ICSF) hold to come back to designed schools (SDN 1, SDN3, and SDN 4). Our theme this meeting would be outside the class. I know the students must be so bored to having just behind-desk lesson. So I and friends prepare for some stuffs to provide the activity in the next day.

- A sachet of Chinese cabbage seeds (Brassica rapa sp.)
- Unused mini cup of mineral water
- Water flask
- Fertile soil
- Pit

After any stuffs prepared, all students are involved into personal seedling as their project. They have to observe the growth of seed for next 14 days till subsequent meeting with us again. Group book note is also provided by us which made by recycle paper we collect from Photo-copier kiosk. Fortunately they gave us freely so we just need to cut it up into a well note.
