Aviation Industry is Turbulent Alike

Maintained aircraft at Soekarno-Hatta Internationa Airport

I, as my year-end resolution comes to near every miles of completion. My first flight in the beginning of this year has been no longer to-do-list. For the reason visiting my baby born niece, I booked the airlines ticket 3 months ago en route Jakarta-Malang with addition 2 more flights from Surabaya to Lombok and the subsequent flight Lombok-Sumbawa. I decided to stay in Malang for 5 days before going home for research.

The flight for growing East Java's city become more convenient as aviation industry extends the wings with very competitive growth. My choice fell to Batavia Air due to its fascinating fare when I randomly checked online-price to aim Sultan Abdul Rahman Saleh Airport for an hour and 10 minutes long. Checking-in at Terminal 1C Soekarno-Hatta Internationa Airport is nothing much different, only the day of my departure is less crowded. I am little confused when realizing the printed boarding pass signs to direct Gate C4 meanwhile the flight timetable shows different path, Gate C1. Fortunately the ground staff announces this mishandling so nothing bad happen.

As announcement of departure sounded, all passengers board onto aircraft just in time, good improvement I guess. Flying with conspicuously aged Boeing B737-400 series is no more surprise. Batavia Air, despite of its zero fatal accident record and first EU safety standard, still in progress of effort to revitalize its liveries. The paint which looks more elegant painted writhing dark blue over the end-narrow-body dims its aging-seen aircraft. As it is parked next to GMF base, scattering repaired aircrafts are around us. Garuda's subsidiary maintenance company, GMF, is at its best growth for expansion to fill the demand.

Just not long after disembarking from terminal building, the aircraft posses for immediate departure leaving the runway. Jakarta's sky look cloudy and so does adjacent area.

Batavia Air at Sultan Abdul Saleh Airport, Malang after landing

I sleep some minutes after capturing take-off video and some sky photos. The stewardesses elegantly walk through narrow isle to disseminate very decent cup of water, I expect another decent bread like my previous flight boarding to Surabaya, but nothing happen. It's no matter actually for the price it values. Just few minutes later, the captain announces for landing position amid grey bulky cloud above and around. But nothing to underestimate, my previous flights with Batavia Air with the same or even worst condition, the pilot is always successful passing the storm, something that always makes me impressed flying with. We touch down the runway then immediately park next to very small airport building. Malang airport is now about expanding its terminal by building the new one next to in-operating terminal.

I wait my brother in-law to pick me up. And here I am in Malang again.

The night at home, suddenly online news, TV breaking news, and overheard social media are once shaken by very surprising account of court verdict to sentence Batavia Air bankruptcy. For me myself I think at first it's just rumor. But later the news evolves which convinces me a real badluck. Officially Batavia Air's twitter account informed the decision as well as its official website. Nothing to do but frozen for awhile. I still have one more subsequent flight. Thinking about refund? I am still doubtful as the press releases it is still uncertain, the financial is really not healthy for the company.

This experience is the second of mine as two years ago Mandala Air dumped my refund after its official shut down, before resurrection thanked to financial aids from other parties it is now re-operating again. I never expect more after all.

I do hope Batavia Air will be returning back to Indonesia and regional skies as I trust you to fly with.

Sumbawa: The Disgraced Anniversary

When somebody comes to you to wish you a very happy anniversary greeting with a box of birthday gift upon it, I do believe you will be very excited and thank it so much. Then it disappears as you are going to unbox the present. Once you open it, out of sudden you start to scream fearfully as you are aware it contains a very bad smell carcass with letter of threat along with, so horrible!

It might sound like in fairy tale or happens only on soap opera, but the thing is alike as today Sumbawa celebrates its 54th anniversary in full of scares. The sacred of euphoria suddenly has turned into crowd of riot just few hours after ceremony. Public transportation, mini-market, houses, and worship place are no exception from vandalism meanwhile some of it burnt. The fog towers up as notorious protesters set the fire to the innocence. Even the turmoil is worsened by pillage. The news blown as the local report it through real time social network.

The disturbance claimed to emerge since the sweeping mob set up by university students in the town going down the road for protest. They prosecute policeman who they claim alleged to murder and raped a girl who turns out their fellow. But the clarification of rumor is still in progress. Even it worsens as the riot proliferates to include racial and religious sense on it, a critical matter to diversity and existence of minority within the town and surrounding.

Twitter timeline tagged #PrayForSumbawa comes up in torrent, so does Facebook People as they (mostly) who turn out the Sumbawan fervently spread the message of peace meanwhile some others condemn the protesters who are alleged the rampant unrest maker as symbol of stupidity. They also respond the tragedy a tremendous disappointment and claim it a shame. Netizens yell through soundless word to ask immediate response from regarding security forces as they mention official policemen as well as the Mayor's to cease off the riot.

For whatever reason, the intolerance and violence are decisively disgraceful. May peace always prevail.

Jakarta: The Overdrowned Venice

Jakarta skyscrapers tower up on the submerging basin

I have never taken any short visit to Jakarta since my last strolling by to accompany my Japanese fellow during his visit in Indonesia. I prefer stayed home (at student hostel for sure) preparing final exam or some times had meeting with fellow members of our newly re-established student organization, after few months hibernated. Meanwhile in the middle of spare time, I convinced my lazy ass to stand up grueling with laundry. I have been accustomed to do my own clothe washing, rinsing, till drying off. All those steps was all right and so fine until people started to set fireworks flirted the new year darkness.

I, who usually don't always too much put concern on Greek myth, suddenly my rambling notion whispered me a folklore about fireworks which have attracted the goddess Zeus, believed as the god of sky and rain, looking down to the flickering cities. He might felt dazzled off and disturbed. So might he got anger due to firework clatter. As result of his annoyance he pours down perpetual medium to heavy rain until today which causes my clothes creasy, no sun lights.

Once in my rational mind warns, it is impossible for Zeus sees Jakarta or perhaps Bogor as his highlights, as he never visited these two cities. Moreover it is because Zeus is too busy considering economy slowdown in Athens as he looks frustrating with mass turmoil going down the street for protest. He might be certainly very busy. Regardless of Zeus's factor, he might has swapped his duty blessing Jakarta with swamping 5-year period flash flood to another "localized rain goddess".

The duty-swap certainly has still caused heavy rain, the claim is valid. Not to mention Bogor, a renowned rain city, I have been  several days without long outdoor strolling. I prefer stay tuned on TV or just nudging my little finger on 10" tablet to read online news or and "youtubing" insane videos. Meanwhile outside the song of sprinkle sounds reluctant to ease down. The more I complain about, the more it takes place as it is so lusty for a revenge. I have no power to run it out even though people in Jakarta has been surviving among raising flood level.

Otherwise it looks so funny for me when the crowds among flowing flood condemn Bogor for its less deterrent to supply free wicked water through the rivers passing by. Meanwhile people in Bogor don't take it too much responses, lulled in long nap for the rain teased the ass to idle. I myself who has Bogorized my manner naturally following the circumstance. Indeed the end of final exam has really boosted my laziness into some percent above the threshold. Sounds creepy yet so relaxing.

I attempt, in my very spare time, to play my wild rambling brain finding the best solution to ease off the wicked flood. But once I realize my Hydrological Engineering calculation is never too enough. Seems I haven't involved sociological parameter, economical cost, feasibility analysis, and so forth, whatever it is as reluctant as refilling empty toothpaste flask through narrowing neck after post-manufactured process.

The capital city is now over drowned. Yet it looks beautiful from far above as the floods writhe following the paving roads particularly at Bundaran HI, as it is depicted the latest by either professional photographer or instagram tooled photobomber. I could say it is the seasonal Venice as this year is the best period after 5 years back flash flood swamped 10 million capital city. I am just too curious waiting for the upcoming 5-year occurrence, by my raw calculation it will be by 2018. Two years before 2020 Olympic Games bid after Istanbul's proposal, Jakarta will host it no more than 2032. Hopefully all participants from over 200 NOC's countries will really "enjoy Jakarta" traveling by boat on the city's crowd or perhaps at another attraction, athletic sprinter with Zeus's torch in clutch passing by serious traffic jam at speed 6 km per hour. What a wonderful Jakarta!
